No Deacceleration Problem

I can take my stock 91' GTA LB9 700r4 and put it in first gear and leave it in there. I can take off and run the rpms on up to whatever i want but were gonna say 3000 rpms. When you let off the gas you should have some kind of engine brake and deacceleration. But when i let off at 3000rpms@25 mph my rpms go down to idle but im still rolling at about 25 mph. BUT......get this when i hit the gas again it will stall at the rpms i let off at. SO......for example. I run 1st gear up to 3000rpms and left of the gas for 5 seconds or so and the punch it it wont move until it hits 3000rpms. Daily driving is fine and theres no problem. What caused it was i accidentally downshifted it into 2nd at about 65 mph b/c of a cop and i heard a loud clunk. But to make things more complicated it doesnt do it in reverse and in reverse it has engine brake. Any experts out there wanna take a shot?

The overrun sprag & clutch assembly is most likely broke if it happened all at once. DO NOT let the engine fall back to idle then give it gas again to match rpm's when in manual 1st or 2nd gear, you can destroy the transmission this way.

Thanks ALOT for the info b/c i would do that every once in a while just to get that little extra jump. But again THANKS ALOT. Can you just replace that or does the trans just need a whole new rebuild?
