Axle/Gears: 9 bolt 3.27
7YZM-Y-00372393-252H What model 700r4 is this?
I just bought a used tranny supposed to be out of a 87 transam. My chiltons shows this as an 87 trans, looking at the numbers. But shows a YK for the model.
But my trans I just bought shows YZ whats this model Number for? Shouldnt it be YK IM thinking this shows its from an Fbody. It has the torque arm mount on the rear housing.
Also this trans has a cable speedo, MY 90 has an electric sensor. Can I just swap out the sensors and be good to go or is there more to it?

Depending on how technical you want to get, the transmission came out of a 1987 F car with a 350 Tuned Port engine. The tranny was built on September 9, 1986 on shift "H". It was probably installed in a car that had 372393 as the last 6 of the VIN number.
And yes, the speedo parts are interchangable.

Thanks for the help guys! I feel a lot better knowing I can swap over the speedo parts. I havent really had a chance to do anything with it yet. To many projects going on right now.
If I ever hit the lottery I will have a Pro-built tranny behind this 400.

What kinda thru me off was my chiltons said that there should be a YK for the model. But the 87 trans shows a YZ, why are they different?

Mike, consider the source (Chiltons). More than likely, it was a typo because I don't show that a "YK" model exists for F-cars.
It breaks down like this:
7: 1987
YZ: 350 TPI, YP: 305 4bbl, YW: 305 TPI, YX: 173 MPFI
M: Hydramatic 700R-4
Then of course you have the VIN, the build date in Julian form and the shift.

Hey thanks a lot for breaking those numbers down for me. I didnt know you could tell the engine size from those numbers.
I still have my original tranny. I will have to check it to be sure its the original case.

Given the right source, you can tell ALOT from the numbers that are all over your car. After all, they are there for a reason
