Planetary gears chewed up in my differential, why?
I have replaced tons of ring and pinions, but of course on my own damn car I can not figure out why the planetary gears are all chewed up. No signs of any other problems back lash is good every thing is nice and tight. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Too many one-wheel burnouts is the usual cause
That whole set of gears is pretty cheap

Thanks RB, I have the GT5 (3.73) and G80 posi traction this is the only gearset that Chevrolet has discontinued for the 1984 model year, thanks for the link. I believe the person who owned the car before me really hammered on it.

I also have plans for alot more power than this car came with in stock form. Can this rear end handle it with some upgraded components like Auburn or PowerTrax and stronger axles?

Weld up the axle tubes, use a solid pinion bearing spacer instead of a crush sleeve, use a bearing cap girdle type of cover, use synthetic fluid.
Better axles are a good idea.
If you're going to replace all that stuff, go with 28-spline parts instead of 26. And if you do that, Superior Axle makes that axle, that's heat-treated after splining, unlike any of the "custom" axle vendors like Moser or the like. Not that those aren't good products; but it happens that since this is an OEM application, the "custom" axle solution isn't the best way to go.
As far as how much power it will handle, the same rear is the stock unit in up to 2002 in LS1 cars, and seems to give acceptable service in those cars; that's only about 375-400 crank HP though.
