Will this T/O Bearing work in '97 T56?

Hey guys, after some checking I think I've solved my throwout bearing ordeal. Will this T/O bearing work in my '97 T56?

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommer...amp;prmenbr=361

I'm looking at the GM Self-Aligning Throwout Bearing P/N 490-70-201.

Thanks

your link doesnt work, but i dont see how the part could work, because the TO bearing is part of the pressure plate, its not a separate part. if ya know what i mean. this is the first time id seen that, but thats how it is. dont know if you remember that from when you did the install.

Here's the link:

I haven't done the install yet but I do know what you're talking about. Are you sure they're one piece? So you're saying I need the whole P/P assembly? Look at my site, in the pic of the p/p, there's no T/O bearing so apparently they come apart? Thanks

I have seen them apart many times, I don't think that many are broken!

It's not actually one piece....it's just that when the bearing is clipped into the pressure plate it doesn't look like it can come back out.

just to let you know, that will not work i just replace the throw out bearing on my brothers t-56 and that will not work, because the lt-1 t-56 has a pull style pressure plate, and the rest of the gm manuals have a push style. so that will not work, because they have to have retaining clips to hold them to the pressure plate, which that does not have in the pic.

The T56 bearing retainer is a different outer diameter than the standard GM one & obviously the bearing inner diameter is smaller as well. Thusly, none of the bearings listed there on the Jegs link you provided will work. You need one specifically for a 93-97 F-body 6 speed. Why?

Crap! Well how about the "Oversize" one? P/N 490-70-104. But would that come with the retaining clips? I called Jegs already none of them seemed to know a thing about the T56.

the oversized one will not have the retaining clips either, I tried to worn you that it wouldnt work, but i would have said something else but The Great J was rude to me, but the LT-1 is the only pull style clutch gm made, so it will tell you if it is supposed to be used with the LT-1 T-56 style pressure plate. I hope you can find a better sollution then my brother did, he paid over 100$ for his new one.

Good Luck

Do you think I can buy the clips somewhere else then? If I can pay $37 for the bearing then buy the clips I'll still be WELL under $100. Ok say I get the clips, will the bearing actually fit onto the tranny?

No. No. No kidding.

OK, here is the deal. I am LBrohez brother. He installed my clutch for me while I was at work so we could get the rest installed when I got home but I have had it appart too. You have to have an LT1 T56 specific T/O bearing. I paid about 95 + tax. If you order it from a dealer it is 160. If you get it from GM parts direct it is about $90 + $2?.?? shipping. You cant get it cheap. You however can re-use the clip in the pressure plate. You just squeeze the 2 sides of it together and it will come out. Then the bearing will come out of the other side of the pressure plate. YOU CANNOT USE A NON LT1 T56 T/0 BEARING. Oh, by the way, the T56 is a blast.
