Trans Temp Gauge Install

I was wondering where I should install a sender for a trans temp gauge. I have the cooler lines where I could put the sender, that is one place. However, I have two places for the in and out of the coolant tank for the trans fluid. There is a third area that has a bolt in it that looks like it plugs the tank up. The bolt is just below the upper cooler line and I thought it would be great if I could just put the sender there. Does anyone have any ideas? I am not really sure how to splice into the cooler lines.

if its an autometer guage then u have to put it in the trans pan. thats what the instrcutions say to do. so i think when im feelin lucky ill drop my pan drill weld and see if it doesnt leak but i got other things that need to get done.

Yeah I've heard that usually they want you to drill into the pan. This might give you the most accurate reading however you have to put a hole in your pan. I know AutoMeter has an adapter that might fit on the cooler lines. It just would be a whole lot easier to put it there. I thought about a fuel pressure gauge too which would be pretty easy but that thing costs like $150 + so I think I got better things to spend money on.

I ran my auto meter trans sending unit in the cooler line and it works fine.

I've been looking at the 700R4 and I see there are also some plugged areas of the transmission to check oil pressure in the clutches. If I could only find out what size these plugs are I could put the sender there which would probably be best and easiest.

A buddy of mine just put one in his car and the fitting that came with the gauge just plugged right into the side of the transmission. There is a plug there that is the same size and the one that comes with the gauge.
