Clutch engages very high
Hello, I just replaced my flywheel (old one was warped), pressure plate, clutch, and throw out bearing last week, I just got the car running after having oil leakage problems (still need to get that small drip from the distributor fixed tomorrow) and I thought maybe the new clutch would fix my old problem.
My clutch disengages perfectly, however it engages at the very top when I let off the pedal, I probably half a half inch of play from the top. I was thinking maybe I had air in the hydraulics but wouldn't that cause the exact opposite? Clutch not disengaging even if the pedal is pressed completely?
So I am asking for your help on this problem. Do I need to bleed the slave cylinder? Or what is another possible cause? I know its normal for it to be high with a new clutch, but this is just too high. One thing I did notice on my slave cylinder is that the two plastic holdings that seem to hold the rod straight are broken off, could this be the problem?
The clutch set was Perfection Hytest MU1902G1A .
Please help, thanks.

Ok quick question, if I do need to buy a new slave cylinder (Unless of course they sell that plastic part by itself which would be great), do I need to bleed the hydraulics to install the new one? *crosses fingers* please say no........please....

Hey Pasky,
Im having the problem and I did install my throw-out bearing properly.
I think my problem is due to me installing an Autozone crap clutch kit.
IMHO, bleeding isnt going to help. Take the crap clutch out and install a quality unit. Hell, a Borg Warner Brute Force clutch kit is better than run-of-the-mill parts store junk. I just helped a dude put one in his Camaro and it feels a hell of a lot better than mine.

Well, it was like this with the previous clutch I had as well. I don't think its the clutch. I have a feeling its my slave cylinder. Im not sure which is why i am asking because the two plastic parts that hold the cylinder rod centered are broke off (It was like this when I bought it) and was wondering if this is possibly the case, if so do I need to bleed the hydraulics if i want to replace it? Thanks for the reply.

The plastic tether that's broken is not important at all....it's mainly to keep the slave cylinder compressed during shipping. If you replace it the new one will just snap the first time you press the pedal. Leave it be.
Bleeding the clutch probably won't help either...if you had air in the lines it would feel mushy and catch low instead of high.
I don't think there's much you can do with it...the hydraulic system does not allow for pedal adjustment. It's possible to trick the hydros and adjust the pedal HEIGHT, but the catchpoint would still be right at the top of the throw.
