T-5 speedo parts interchange
I could really use some help. I originally had an Automatic and converted it to a Manual. When I did the conversion I used this 84 NWC T-5 my friend had laying around. (it was junk) Recently I just got a 90 WC T-5 which I'm sure you all know, uses an electronic signal for the speedometer. (My Camaro is an 88, mechanically driven speedometer) What my problem is I have the gear assembly which fits in the speed sensor location on the WC perfectly. The problem is the hold down plate which holds the gear assembly doesn't work, it's too short. Does anybody know if a 1988 and 1989 hold down will work, or did they change the extension housing in 1990 for the electronic speedometer. Any help would be appreciated.

All of the hold-downs will work, as far as the trans is concerned. The trans did not change. They are all the same.
Make sure you have the right hold-wdown for your particular speedo setup: the littlle straight picce for the cable, the forked thing for the VSS. Either one will bolt right up to either trans.
FYI, I am right now driving around a 91 trans in my 83 car, with the cable drive bolted right up into it; with a 87 140 mph dash. For a while I was doing all of that with a 73 model 400 motor. That's how interchangeable all of this stuff is.
