Reverse is going out
This TH400 has been nothing but one big freakin POS. Just started acting up yesterday, put it into reverse and instead of it solidly going into gear it has a slight delay and you can hardly feel it go into gear. Press on the gas and the car moves but also chatters. The forward gears seem to be not effected, they all feel good and still chirps in 2nd and 3rd.
Question is, what would cause reverse to go out? Stuck valve? Pressure bleed through somewhere? The center support was bad and changed out 2 repairs ago since 1st and reverse were coming on at the same time. I hate to take it back to the transmission shop cause he's fixed the damn thing 3 times now grrrrrrrrr. First time it's done this though. If I had the money, I'd just buy a new transmission but as of right now I don't have 1500 bucks to spend.

If 3rd gear is working ok, then I would be looking into the low/reverse band apply area/circuit. Your transmission builder can most likely do this from below, (by dropping the pan) while the transmission remains in the car.

Thanks for the info... Going to let him fix it this one more time and if it screws up again, I'm parking the car until I can buy a new transmission. I'm absolutly fed up with this one.

Bleh, today I was driving the car and it didn't want to shift to 3rd 1st and 2nd are still nice and solid shifts. I'm parking the car and am going to try and buy another TH400 with a converter from a friend of mine. 1500 bucks tho that I don't have

Problem solved I got that 1500 dollar transmission with a converter today :hail: :hail: worked out a deal with the guy for payments. The transmission was bolted to a blown BBC making 1000 hp in a 4000 lb car. It's just been rebuilt and has maybe 5 miles on it
