700r4 Whining :(
I just had my 700r4 rebuilt in Nov. of 2001, with a "Jr." Shift Kit and a corvette servo installed. It has always shifted gears hard, but that's what I was told to expect from the shift kit.
Now, just recently, (as of last night as a matter of fact) it has begun to whine. It only whines in park and neutral. In reverse there is a very subtle rattling noise coming from the transmission. I know it's not the alternator (sound isn't coming from there), I know it's not the rearend (whines while in park), and the whining noise cycles up with RPMs. I'm taking it back to the shop that rebuilt it tomorrow, but I would like to be armed with some knowledge so they don't take me to the cleaners.(They've tried to do that before). The fluid level is fine.
Any ideas on what it could be?

Maybe the torque converter, since the whining is related to engine rpms and is present in both park and neutral. Hopefully that's all.

Update:
I had the transmission serviced (filter, fluid - needed to be done anyway), but the noise is still present. The guy didn't catch it in the shop (only happens after the car gets nice and warm). So, say it is the TC, will it hurt to drive the car for a few weeks until the guy who rebuilt my engine comes back into town from vacation? Or should I bite the bullet and get it fixed ASAP?
Also, the noise is present in all gears, just WAY more noticeable in park and neutral, and VERY noticeable when going in reverse. Does that help diagnose the problem?
Hoping to get this fixed cause it's annoying and sounds bad,

If it is the converter it will definately hurt the trans. I'd also check the front pump. You should check out netgearhead.net Those guys really know their stuff.

Turns out it can't be the torque converter. I quote:
It is either the pump, since the noise is almost always there, or the "planetary and bearings".
Check out this page for more info:

Torque converter noises are easy to isolate. Since the entire converter (pump, turbine and stator) turns while the transmission is in park and neutral, a converter noise will go away in those ranges. When the transmission is in gear and the drive wheels are stationary, the turbine in the torque converter doesn't spin, because the turbine shaft is stationary. This is when the bearing between the turbine and main housing of the converter is working. If the noise is there only in gear with the drive wheels stationary and goes away in neutral, suspect the torque converter. There is an exception with the AOD transmission. The direct drum of an AOD is always turning while the engine is running. For this reason, a torque converter noise can be easily confused with the noise made by one of the direct drum bearings.
Tip: A torque converter noise will get quieter as the drive wheels begin rolling slowly from a stop.
