tv cable that goes to tranny......
okay, i dont know if i should post here or in the tpi section but here goes..........
buddy was messing with the car the other day, and accidently broke the tv cable clip that holds it to the throttle linkage and all. my question is, since that is the only thing that broke, could i just get a new plastic piece, and possibly take the crimp off the end of the cable, install new plastic piece, and recrimp the cable?????

ha i just called them, they said that they couldnt get the upper end. you have to order the whole piece. anyways, i ordered it from the local chevy dealer. it was like $35.
one last question, they said that it might take day or two to get here. this is my only mode of transportation. i know that it is not that good for the tranny to be driven like this, but i only live about 10 miles from were i work. would it be too bad on the tranny if i just drove it to work and back only for the next couple days until the part gets in?????

I heard that it's really bad to drive on it like that, which is why I didn't. Something about the fluid heating up or something, don't quite remember...

Dude, if they told you that you've got to buy the entire cable that's a massive bunch of
I went to my local GM dealer looking for a clip for mine and they GAVE ME ONE FREE!!! Those guys are communists if they want you to buy the entire cable for just that clip. I've still got it as a matter of fact. I ended up buying a Lokar cable...long story. The point is...those people are trying to take you for a ride. I wouldn't trust them with a jar of $h!t.

If I HAD to drive the car, I would get a big ring terminal and lightly
crimp it on so the end of the cable wouldn't pull through. With the ring secured onto the stud, I would then readjust my TV cable.
CAUTION : A loose (or misadjusted) TV cable can cause the line pressure to be too low to provide adequate clamping force to the clutches or band, and damage from slippage can result.

If you do have to buy a whole new cable, GET THE DAMN GM VERSION!!! Do it once and do it right because the aftermarket models SUCK! Their either too long or too short.
And if its either of those then its like running without a TV cable, and thats BAD, really bad.
Spend the $35 if you need a new one, its well worth it.

I've done it before and yeah it was hell. If you don't feel up to the task, but do have money take it to a tranny shop. Talk with the guy for a bit about it, sometimes they'll do it for cheap. I mean really cheap.
The first time I did it the TV cable was a NAPA part and it was too long, the 2nd time I just paid somone $20 to do it. It was $20 well worth the money.

well the damn ring terminal didnt work. it still does the same thing. how do you adjust the cable so i can make it longer. i believe that it is too short and not acting right.

You cannot adjust a TV cable so its longer. It is as long as it is. You can adjust the casing, but the cable itself is tied to the throttle linkage.
You'd need a new cable thats the proper length.

aha!!!!!!!! problem was fixed with 2 zip ties. i tied one one the cable, and one looped inside the tie and onto the throttle ***. and then adjusted the cable accordingly. its amazing what being broke will make you do.
