82 non-hydraulic clutch problem

Hey guys i took a 4-spd stock saginaw out of an 82 t/a along w/ all the parts to swap from an auto. We swapped it into another car (non fbody) and the clucth pops going in and out. Its manual clutch linkage w/ the rods and stuff donnected right to the fork and a new clutch. The rods themselves move frely but it take a crapload of pressure to get the clutch to push down past the "pop" then it pushes down the rest of the way just fine. Letting it out, it comes up fine until it again hits that "pop" area and it pops up no matter how slow ya let it up. It didnt do this while in t/a , anyone know what it might be?

Thanks for your time

Sounds like typical mechanical clutch behavior.... in fact, that's the very reason I changed mine to hydraulic. It's caused by friction in the linkage somewhere.

There's a grease fitting hole in the "Z-bar" that doesn't have a grease fitting in it. You might want to put one there and lube it. Also lube the fork pivot ball inside the bell housing.

If it still does it, then it's a groove worn in the clutch gear bearing retainer. Replace it. Put the shims under the bearing race back into the new one when you put the bearing race in it.
