The easiest way to go is the aftermarket T56. They are designed specifically to retrofit into 3rd gens.

I understand that but that involves rounding up a bunch of parts i dont have like the clutch pedal assembly the master and slave cylinders a bellhousing and what not. The retrofit,if im not mistaken, also requiers a shortened driveshaft and torque arm all that seems like more trouble than its worth.
Besides isnt the 4th gen trans is the same lenght as my TH700?

i obviously havent done both on my car. but from what i read, the 4th gen trans swap is more straight forward than the aftermarket. you just take everything from the 4th gen and bolt it onto the third gen. no shortening no altering, nothing, just need a new crossmember (www.spohn.net)
i did the 4th gen t56 swap in my car with a friend and we didnt really hit any brick walls at all! good luck.
