Vette Zf 6 Speed Into Thirdgen
Hey all I got a ZF 6 speed Vette tranny (I know I know but I got it cheaper than any T56 I could find soooo off on a new adventure I go).
Does anyone know or heard of a place to get a crossmember for this swap?? Can I modify an aftermarket one made for the T56? Or does anyone know or the legnth or have a T56 out they can measure from bell housing to the rear mounting hole??
I know the Vette rear end is set up for independent rear suspenion and third gens are a solid single axle so the actual rear end doesn't move with the tires... but my thinking is why couldn't I just set up the tranny/torque arm up by attaching the torqe arm to the crossmember like the Spohn setup. Even if I had to have a custom crossmember made.
Any ideas or places to try would be great!!!!

Should work, but may need to modify some stuff... thats the same tranny the Firehawk came with. You'll probably need that Corvette's bellhousing too though.

but seriously, i do believe the ZF6 is stronger
its only been recent that they have been "rebuildable"
I.E.: if you had a ZF6 fail in your vette, it had to be replaced, not rebuilt

Do a search for 'ZBRA'...I don't think he posts here anymore but he has done the swap.

ZBRA used some of the old leftover SLP conversion parts for his swap. At one point SLP sold a conversion package.
That was one of the sweetest cars to ever be on TGO. Hell of a nice guy too. If you e-mail him I expect he'll help you out.

If I am not mistaken I think that I was told that they are to big to fit in our trans tunnels. I think that was what part of the SLP conversion kit was. I think that it had a modified section for the trans tunnel so it would fit.

Yikes!! This will be harder than I thought.... a real challenge. I don't like the extra $$$ involved but what the hell I'll already over budget. This car is more than just about money now. I cut a few corners trying to save money and it just came back to spite me in the end.
