Why is the fluid capacity for T-5's so different through the years???
I was looking in my Chiltons manual today because I'm going to change the fluid in my rear differential and also I'm getting a WC T-5 so I'm going to need gear lube for that.
My T-5 that is in my 84' now holds 3.5 quarts of lube. I looked down the line and any T-5 that is from a 88-92 holds 5.8 quarts. WTF?? That's weird isn't it?
Anyone know what the reasoning is for this is?
And also:
I want a T-5 out of an RS so I can get the 0.63 5th gear ratio to lower my cruise rpm's on the freeway. That almost the same 5th gear as a T56.
A bunch of guys on this board seem to think that because RS's are slow from the factory, that they have a non-WC T-5 and that the TPI cars have the World Class. To the best of my knowledge all T-5's in the late model cars are the same. To say that they are different sounds pretty lame to me.
By searching the web, it seems pretty darn sure that they are all the same.

3.5 quarts? Are you sure that isn't 3.5 pints? And mebbe 5.8 pints? The only difference I can think of would be the case for the WC T5 is a bit bigger internally and requires the extra capacity.
At any rate, when the tranny is 'full', the fluid should be just starting to seep out of the fill plug hole with the car level.

Yeah it's pints.
I know how to tell if it's full, but in any camaro manual it'll tell you the info I posted above.
Also as far as pints and quarts: The conversion tables for fluid capacity say that pints and quarts are the same. I always thought they were not ( I thought pints were much smaller.)
