How long will a t5 last/rebuild cost/how to tell?

About how many miles will a t5 go before it needs to be rebuilt, and whats it cost to have it done. Does a t56 bolt in and thats it, or does it need to be modified, and a new chip or anything? How do you tell if a tranny is good when driving a car? Thanks.

How long any componenet on a vehicle will last is a combination of things like: How strong is it originally? Did this particular one have any manufacturing flaws? How was it used or misused?

T5s are not known for their extreme durability. It will give good service behind a mild small block. There is no set rebuild mileage, I've heard of some lasting well past the 200k mile mark. But if you beat on it, it will fail.

Price of a rebuild, check your local speed shops or transmission shops.

A good tranny generally has all of it's gears, doesn't whine when going down the road, shifts OK, doesn't grind going in to gears.

As for t56, there is an insane amount of information on these, and their installation. Try a search, not just of the tech board, but also the board archives. You can find out more than you ever wanted to know.

Here is the actual tech article on swapping a T56. You can consider it, or at least fill your head with knowledge
