Hard shift in T-5
Well I finally road-tested the rebuilt T-5 today and right off I noticed that the tranny was having problems going into second gear. It would go into gear but it was pretty rough. Plus it woulnd't downshift into second, either. What could cause this? I've replaced the synchro rings already. I suspect the synchro sleeve, myself but was wondering if it might be something else...
thanks!

What do you mean by "hard to get in"? Do you mean that it seems like it takes alot of effort mashing the shifter into second before it will go? If so, that will decrease with time. As long as the synchro works, and the trans is quiet, it's all probably OK.

'hard to get in' as in there is some grinding and resistance before it pops into gear. It's not that I have to lean on the shifter to get it to go into gear- it just won't go into gear smoothly. Now that's on the 1-2 shift- if I do a 3-2 shift then it won't go into 2 unless I slow the car down to a crawl (< 5mph)......
Tom- I checked over those shift forks when I had them out- they were in pretty good shape. Didn't see any cracks or abnormal wear on them so I left them in....
