Driveshaft ???will it fit or not
Ok I went to the boneyard today & found an aluiminum driveshaft near a newer camaro.Or should I say front half of a newer camaro, anyways. The sticker on it says Three Rivers #12564003 AU Other number to right of it is #00001742. I went to GMpartsdirect & looked it up but it didn't have much of a discription on the find. So can anyone help me out with this does anyone know what it went too & if it's a camaro will it fit in my 86 w/700r4?? If it doesn't i won't feel bad cause I only paid $50.00 for it. Thanks in Advance.

It will fit. Is it aluminum? That would be a sweet deal. I would go and get it balanced just to make sure its ok before you put it on though. Balancing usually runs about 50 dollars out here.

yes it is aluminum it was a sweet deal that's why I didn't pass it up. I just wanted to make sure it's gonna fit before I go out into the cold & try it. :lala: I'm happy to here that it will fit thanks for the reply. Is anyone else running a 700r4 with this driveshaft??? I do plan on getting it balanced & new U-joints.

There are no dents or anything & the weights are on it. I think I'm just going to replace the u-joints & throw it in there & give it a try. I probally should of done some homework on it, but I was there & there was only 1 driveshaft that was aluminum & 3". I wasn't even sure if it fit a camaro but it was sitting in a burned up 00 camaro but the shaft looked to be in great condition.. I just hope I got lucky & everything is fine with it
If not I now know what to look for in the future.

I 'believe' I've read that this shaft is a fit for our cars; however, here are some dimensions from the 1LE thirdgen shaft that may assist:
Length from U-joint center to U-joint center is 41 1/2. Diameter approx 2 3/4 in. The part # is 10085375.
The fourthgen LS1 part # is 12564003. Diameter is approx 3 in.
I was forced to change U-joint sizes on my 85 IROC to get the shaft to fit. I used CarQuest part # 3-3130. I suggest you'll be in the same boat with your 86 (88 and up should be a bolt in).
