unplugged the 700r4 lockup and modifed the governor

well, got tiredof lockup coming on at only 25mph and lugging the engine and tired of tranny shifting sooooo soon all the time so annoyingly, so i put car up on the rack and pulled out the governor and ground off a bunch of metal off one side of the governor and unplugged the lockup harness at the tranny,a nd wow its like a whole new car, so much better behaving tranny !

anything wrong with runnign around with no lockup ?

thanks

Without lockup you will lose gas milage, and your tranny and engine will run warmer.

700r4's are notorious for grenading the overdrive unit without the lockup enabled, have fun paying for a new tranny soon

if you dont beleive me i will send you all the peices i took out of mine for having the lock up unplugged

It lets the torque converter slip all the time, creating extra heat. This is especially true if you drive at a speed that keeps your rpms below the 'stall' speed of the converter. For example, if you cruise down the highway at 1400 rpm and the 'stall' of your converter is 1900 it's going to slip pretty good(not all the way up to 1900 though) Pulling hills will make it worse. Heat is a big enemy of automatic trannies, this is just one more thing to add to the heat. Quick fix, put a manual switch on the ground wire going into the tranny and plug it back in. Then, when your on the highway flip it on.

Because the 350 trans has no overdrive. Thus you don't drive at or near stall speed for long periods of time, heating up the tranny fluid.
Why don't you just hook up a relay to the TCC so it only locks up in 4th?

then ill keep it in third gear, i dont care, the rear end is so highof ratio that it doesnt even need 4th anyways. it goes plenty fast in third wayy over 65
even if for some odd reason the tranny went then it would be good excuse to dump the crap 700r4 anyways and put in a more reliable tranny- a th350 , also i would care more if was an 88-up one..

thanks

how long do you think the tranny will last now ? its driven 90% in town driving with mild acceleration driving habits, sometimes faster for fun, so far its stil like brand new, its great,

any guesstimates ?
thanks
