Torque Converter Locks for 30 seconds, then unlocks for good
Hey guys,
My 92' Camaro with a whopping 70k on it decides that the torque converter does not need to be locked while crusing down the freeway. It locks when I get on the freeway and up to 60 mph, then its all over, I have to baby the throttle so I dont rev to 3k. IT does this everytime I get up to speed of where it should lock, then it just unlocks. Anybody have any ideas of whats causing this?

Well again I say I'm no expert, but logically speaking the first thing I'd to is the least expensive thing, check the electronics that lock the tc. Install a switch so you can be sure its being told to lock when you think it should be told to lock. If that fails, well, goodbye tc, and possibly goodbye transmission (well rebuld anyways) Thats how I get through most of my problems, start at the cheapest thing, usually the minor stuff, and thats the stuff made to fail first, then work backwards from it, forcing certain sitiations if necessary. I suppose you could also just get a test light on those wires and watch the test light. If it says the tcc should be locking and its not staying locked, theres the culprit.

It's the same one as the one that rolled out of the factory with, if anythings to blame, I bet its that g*d d*mn Borg Warner ECM replacement module that I got for 100 bux at Pep Boys to try and clear up my ignition failure. By the way, we transferred the stock memcal into this new POS computer.

I'm beginning to think its the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor), the Haynes manual, which many of you think isn't informative or correct AT ALL, states that it controls torque converter lockup. The TCC locks in D, but will only for a minute in OD before disenguaging on the highway to leave me with a maximum safe speed of 50 before I blow anything up. The funny thing about this is the fact that my speedometer functions perfectly, so the VSS probably is fine.
