TH700-R4 won't lock TCC when car is cold
Hey guys,
Look at my sig for the kind of car I have, the torque converter has trouble locking when the engine is not warm. I drove it on the highway while it was warm to somewhere on Saturday night and the transmission performed as it should have. But on the way home, I went on the highway doing the same things I did before and the torque converter would not lock until we got halfway home, and in between it would lock and unlock randomly. My speed was constantly 75 and there were no hills, my trans fluid was replaced a month ago along with the filter. Car has 70k on it and it has not done any burnouts or stunts, let me know what you guys may think is the prob.

Thanks, so your saying theres a minimum temp for my TC to lock up? Is there any way to fix this other than circling my town at low speeds until its warm enough to jump on the freeway?

it's easy enough to fix ...
Program a new PROM with a lower temp threshold for TCC lockup. Would only take a couple of minutes The stock value is 122d F.
However, I would be curious why your car takes forever to reach 122. That would be another way to try to solve the problem (and probably a better way).

Might be the thermostat? Who knows, I replaced my ECM about a month ago to try and kill a problem, but it still came up, do you think my new borg warner ecm w/ stock prom could be doing something? Trans shifts fine, just takes a lil to warm up sometimes, tonight it warmed up in five mins, i felt the heat out of the dash.

perhaps the cts is going out. the cts may be giving false readings to the ecm. just an idea. a bad tps was giving me similar trouble at first. lock-unlock-lock-unlock before the damn thing just quit on me.

So your saying the new Caddy is sending radio interference to my computer? Haha, just playin. What is the CTS, and I dont mean the car, and what was the other thing you said just quit on you? Will I have to open the case to get to it?

Whoops, I'm an idiot. I figured out what they were, and I assume that they aren't that hard to swap out for a new one. The TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) and the CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor. If the TPS is bad, wouldn't that cause other problems like a rough idle or some weird problem like that? My CTS, if that was bad, would my temperature guage on my dash still function properly?

i'm talking about the cts sensor(ecm) not the cts sender(gauge). as for the tps..... the idle was fine for until one time i tried to restart my car. it wouldn't start. i thought omg damn maf went out on me. then i checked it it was reading 3.9 volts @ idle . weird huh? good luck.
