9 bolt rebuild sheets, Rev 2
A lot of people asked for the sheets with the rebuild instructions and specs that I copied and sent out a while ago. I didn't really hear back from a lot of people, so I want to know who got them, who didn't, and who wants them again. The file I sent out was a bit big so I reduced it down to be specific to the LSD unit and not to include the open 9 bolt carrier rebuild instructions.
The instructions are pretty straight forward, specs are listed, and if you check the link below, you can "see" what you're doing. These are GREAT shots of one of these posis taken apart and rebuilt. It's not that hard guys, it can be done.
http://www.umiacs.umd.edu/~mpikas/au...Formula/9Bolt/
Again, let me know who wants them. I'll try to post them somewhere on the net and give you a link to get there.

I have been to the 9bolt.com , and at the point where i don't know if spending 900.00 to rebuild my 9 bolt is a wise idea , or just biting the bullet and buying a 9inch . My real question here is how much power has anyone seen go through a 9 bolt without breaking it . I my goal is to make close to 500hp and 500 foot pounds at the rearwheels .

Miles, who "owns" www.9bolt.com, runs a 427 BBC and doesn't have any problems with his 9 bolt.
BTW, it won't cost you $900 to REBUILD your posi. All you have to do is tear it apart, replace any parts that need it, and shim it a bit tighter. Miles has shims and so does Larry Burd. Shims and maybe springs, that's it.
Keep replying if you guys want them. If you want paper copies, I'm even willing to mail them out if anyone prefers, just send a SASE to my address. E-mail me privately for that.

Ed,
I would like to have the instructions if you would be so kind. It would be good to have them if needed in the future.
Thanks,
-Schultzy

Have you considered submitting this stuff for a tech article?
Also, if I ever get it, I'm gonna have a site up that I would be happy to put it on.

Thanks for the patience, guys. I'll get that file out soon.
I will do a tech article when I get around to actually rebuilding the thing, and also put pics up on my page.

thanks ED. Yes I sell shims. A few forum members have them and loved em.
Mark P also rebuilt his unit twice. I rebuilt mine, and I will possibly pull it apart this summer again to make it tigher.
It's very doable....

Wow! I can't believe I missed that article! It seems like it's actually a pretty easy job! Now I just need to find some time, and an extra set of hands to help me out and I'll get it done!
#32
You don't need extra hands. I did mine by myself. You need to really take your time, and not rush it.
I say set aside a complete day, especially if it is the first time your doing it.

Yes that article is really good. Karl knows his stuff. If you print out the article and then go to Mark's page (link in my first post) the pics he put up will help you understand and "see" what you're doing.
I apologize for the holdup, we had a minor setback in the family, so I haven't gotten the file out yet. Sorry guys, I'll try to tonight.

It sounds like it should be a walk in the park for someone that has changed an open carrier before! I'm just starting to get into differential's at work, before all I had done is simple stuff like axle seals and bearings.
Thanks for the info!
