If you are going to change out your servo, then you might want to install a Fairbanks 2-4 billet servo. It costs about $55 and provides a more firmer shift than a Corvett servo. It will save on your clutches and shift quicker in 1-2 and 2-3. I purchased mine in 1996 from -

The Fairbanks Billet servo is overkill, not worth the problems it might create. I have several 10 & 11 second 700R4's out there with the Corvette servo, and I haven't had any 2-4 band problems because of this.

I used to install the billet servos, and some bad experiences got me using the Corvette servo. Like ProBuilt said, its overkill, and in some cases, can acutally cause damage to the band. Do a search, you'll find that the Vette servo is more than adequate. For example, read this post: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=53468
I would say save the money for something else and get the Vette servo. If you want really firm shifts, you can modify other parts of the tranny, you don't have to try and get it all from the servo.

That is quite an experience with the Sonnax 2-4 Super Hold Servo. I do think that the Vette 2-4 servo is a nice improvement over the 700R4 stock servo with it's firmer shifts and better band life. I don't know how the Sonnox compares with the Fairbanks. I like both the Vette and the Fairbanks servos. I know of some people who have the Vette and some who have the Fairbanks servo and they all like what they have. I have never heard of a failure with either. I have a 1991 Firebird Formula 305 TBI with 327 HP and 358 LB. FT of flywheel torque. My car chirps the rear tires every time it shifts 1-2 (unless I am very light on the pedal). Everyone may not like to chirp their wheels when their car shifts 1-2, but my point is that I have had a Fairbanks servo in my xmission since 1996 with no problems. Probably every manufacturer makes some reliable parts and some don't. I had a $450 TCI bullet proof torque converter that failed after a few months. Who knows.
Good luck to all of us,
Don

Benny,
I don't know if any 3rd gens came stock with a vette 2-4 servo. I have not heard of any. Maybe someone else on this thread can provide some info.

Well, not everybody will experience the same failures. This time two years ago at the dealership, everybody was busting their Reaction Sun Shell. We couldn't keep them in stock, and it was usually on low mileage vehicles like Jimmys, Safari Vans, etc.. (BLEH, Low miles = warranty pay ) and yet there were similar vehicles w/ 100,000+ miles w/ the tranny untouched (including fluid/filter change ) with no problems. Its just the way it goes. You may NEVER see a problem, and yet this one lasted 6 months, HOWEVER there still is the possibility. I have yet to see a Vette Servo induced failure. I'm not going to badmouth the billet servos, but I WILL NOT install them, or reccomend to any of my friends.
