Th700 problem

What can be wrong when I drive on the Highway and kickdown, it jumps from 4th gear to 3, and then it accelerates all the way up to the redline on the rpm meter but the 4th gear never comes back...the th700 works normal in anyother way, any ideas?

Most 700R-4 transmissions will not let you have overdrive at WOT (or more than 75% throttle I think it is).

There are revised 3-4 shift valvetrains from GM that were for use on Police Cars, and there are modified TV Plunger sleeves from companies like Superior and Fairbanks that will let you have your overdrive at higher throttle openings.

But how do you do if you are driving the 402metres, do you lift your foot from the gaspedal so it will switch to the 4th gear and then hit it again?

I don't know what the "402Meters" is, but if you let off, it will upshift into 4th, but if you get back into it, it will go back into third. The tranny was designed to not let you have overdrive at WOT.

I don't know If I'm right or not, but wouldn't a TH700-R4 kickdown kit work? This is what I planned on doing when insalling my shift kit. You can find these in the Summit / Jegs books.

I think the "kickdown kit" is the same thing we are talking about. I'd have to see a pic, but I don't know what else a "kickdown kit" would be. Its just a sleeve that houses the TV Plunger.

Hahahaaa, I should have known.

You shouldn't need 4th gear in the 1/4 mile. When I dynoed my car, I left it in third and could hit 115 MPH easily, so I would think that you wouldn't need it unless you were capable of doing 120+ MPH in the 1/4, which if you can, you have one bad street car

Either way, the "kickdown kit" or the GM Upshift sleeve (B-car correction kit) will allow you to maintain WOT while in overdrive.

Some 700R4's can get the 3-4 shift at WOT, others cannot. There are a lot of varibles here (all in the valve body).
