Bellhousings.... Hydraulic & Z-Bar Interchangable???
Hey guys, i'm looking to put a T5 into my car here in about a week or so, i'm changing over from an auto. I'm putting a manual clutch in the car though, and not a hydraulic, cuz I like the feel and the response of the z-bar more, but my question is this: Can you take a bellhousing for a hydraulic setup and be able to modify it to use for a z-bar?? I heard u can take out the hydraulic part and put in the clutch fork and it would work, but I want to make sure first, cuz I can't find a z-bar bellhousing anywhere. Thanks.

Did any third gen ever come with a Z-bar? To my understanding a third gen bellhousing has the access hole at a 45* angle. If it was straight off the side like most normal bellhousings, the clutch fork would be about where the gas pedal is inside the car.

82-83 had the linkage type clutch. I hated it; I put a hydraulic in mine. It's so much better it's not even funny, it was like 2 different clutches altogether, even though I didn't replace the clutch at the time (it was brand new). The linkage clutch fork came out of the BH at exactly the same pointas the hyd fork, at that weird angle.
The systems as a whole are completely interchangeable. You trade the complete pedal assembly & hydraulics & BH, fot the othe complete pedal assy, linkage, and BH. It all bolts right in, except that the hole in the floorboard is slightly different; you have to nibble the linkage hole out a little to accomodate the MC.
The bell housings are different; the slave cyl bolts to a big flange thing cast onto the BH, which the mech BH lacks. I still have one of each sitting around.

I do however, have a hyd. bellhousing that was on a V6 car, are these interchangable too?
My understanding was the bolt pattern was different, but I don't know for sure... does anybody know if those will interchange too? In other words, will this V6 hyd. b/h fit on my V8 car if I add the hyd. system to it?
Thanks for the help!

No. It definitely will not.
The bolt pattern on the back of the motor is different between the 6-cyl and the V8. No interchange is possible between them without a motor plate, which is kind of pointless (costs more and is more trouble than getting the right thing in the first place).
I have no clue whether the 6-cyl hyd BH and 6-cyl mech BH will interchange; I don't fool around with 6's. I would assume they do, but I have never touched one so I can't say for sure.
