700R4 hi po q's, theres a few
i started driving my car this week. it doesnt hook, see my post in chassis/drivetrain. i have a question about the lock up. it has a carb, no computer. the guy that built my transmission said the convertor wont lock up till 4th gear above 55mph or something like that. however it locks up after it shifts into 2nd and third and fourth. personally i think it sucks. because i cant get any still in 2nd and the car jerks when you hit the gas because its locked up. after you slow down enough and get below 1500rpms it unlocks. WTF? is it supposed to do this or is something not right? i stopped by the shop today and the guy who built it wasnt there but i talked to his brother and he said that on hi po applications its supposed to lock up so it wont slip. what about tourqe mulitplication and stall?
also, it shifts out by itself at 5000 rpms. and if you manually put it in 1st after 5500 it shifts itself into second. i need to be going to 6200 or so. i know its a govenor weight problem.
also the part throttle shifts are hard, i have gotten used to it. i talked to dana a while back and he said something about a junior accumulator that eases part throttle shifts but doesnt effect WOT. thanks for any help.

It should not be locking up in second. I think the "brother" was blowing smoke up your **** cause he didn't know or didn't care.
As far as it shifting out of manual first, thats a common thing with 700R-4s. Some do, some don't. If yours does, the TransGo Reprogramming kit will allow you to hold 1st for as long as you would like.
