Will 275/50/15 work?
Does anyone know if 275/50/15's will work on the back of a 90 RS camaro? Anyone tried that? Do you have to cave in the back for that. Assuming it fits on my rims of course. The diameter is only .3 inches off of the original size tires (215/65/15).

Yes they will mount on the stock 15x7 wheel. However, they will bulge horribly. It will handle like crap, and the tire contact patch will not be much bigger than your stock size tire. 255/60r15 would work though. I used those for a couple of years and it fit nice, handled well, and provided a slightly bigger rear tire.

15X8? That's a different story. They should fit on a 15x8 OK, without any problems (assuming the backspacing is correct). Looking at the pic in your sig makes me think they'll fit fine. But that raises another question: Why would you put 215/65r15 on 15x8? That's dangerous too

Do not but 275s or 255s on a 7 inch rim. Its dangerous and will bulgde wayyy too much. For a 7 inch rim the max u should go is 235/60r15. For an 8 inch rim the max is 255.
On my 16*8 inch rims i run 255/50r16s and they barellllly fit on the stockers, kinda tight.

The 215/65/15 is the stock size tire for that car and every time I bought tires they always told me the 215/65/15's are the only size tires that would fit. To be perfectly honest with you I couldn't remember if that rim was a 7" or 8". I tried to measure it with the tire on and it is measuring 8". If that truly is the case I have run those same size tires for the past 12 yrs. I need to go to a wider tire and I don't have the option of buying 2 new rims like the ones I have because they don't make them anymore.

Only tire that will fit? My 85 came stock with 15x7 wheels and 235/60r15 all the way around.
1989camarorsrs - 255/60r15 will safely fit on a 15x7 wheel with no ill effects. A number of people on here use that rear tire. You're comparing a 50 series 16" to a 60 series 15" - very different tires here

The tire I was comparing to the stock (215/65/15) was the 275/50/15. It has a smaller diameter by .3 inches so it should not bother the speedometer at all. That is why I chose to use that tire along with the width of the tire and rim size.

to answer your question, yes they will fit, but is it a good idea? ahhhh prolly not. i got a set of tires/rims from my buddy and they have 275/50/15's BF ta/s on the back and 265/50 up front. IMO the 275 are two wide for the stock rim. my car doesnt hook worth ****. but there are some other factors in that too. i know a 255/60 fits well, and question a 265/50. i dont have the money for new rims right now.

I am not sure what to do about traction just yet. I am trying to get a posi rear end which will help, but right now I have lim. slip with 2.73 and The tire still spins when I step on it going 30 mph. Ridiculous!

My brother had 265/50/15 Goodyear Gatorback's mounted on 7" rims, on his 76 Firebird. It looked pretty damn nice and looked hella wide. It also handled really well with a stiff sidewall. WE wore a set of those done to the belts doing burn-outs and drag racing.
