accumlator spring colors
I have an assortment of GM accumlator springs. White, Violet, Dark Green, Yellow, and Red. I would love to know the softest to firmest order of these springs. Anyone know?
Thanks in advance for your help.

My cars all had the purple stock 1-2 spring so I assumed it was the softest, funny because they all were broken when I removed them. I have an orange spring now and it is a little shorter but firmer. Is there any size difference in the set you have?

I do know that the orange ones are junk. They were tapered or "conical" and prone to breakage. I also think the violet is of the softer springs, but don't know if its the softest.

This quote is from an old post. Perhaps Dr. Pepper could answer your question on the other colors you have asked about. He is very knowledgeable and helpful.

I believe your spring was violet originally. Its a pretty weak spring, only second to the red spring for the weakest springs. I wouldn't use it at all. If you want to soften up the shift I only know of two routes right now for you. You can order that SLP kit and use their spring and if you have the time change over to the corvette servo and large booster valve that comes with it. The spring is a stiffer spring than the factory but will provide some cushion to the 1-2 shift. I still wouldn't use their 3-4 spring though. The other option is to go to a transmission shop and try to buy a yellow spring. This was the heaviest spring that was factory installed.

So on a scale of 1-5 with 1 being the softest, it looks to be like this so far:

Red
Violet
?
?
Yellow
So where does white and dark green fit in?
