Cutlass race car:700R4 or th350?

me and a buddy are building a race car out of an 85 Cutlass.my question is wich would be a better tranny for a car that will be trailered to the track most of the time and driven on the street every once and a while.the car will be powered by a 406 SBC.i'm looking for details on price, longevityand performance.for right now were looking to get the car running and get it into the low 13's or high 12's.

Go with the TH350. A 700R4 is a good street tranny with the low first gear and OD but the gear spread is too far apart between the 1-2 shift to make it a good race tranny. The 700R4 is also heavier, costs more to beef up and has more moving parts inside that you don't need in a drag car.
