Will my 10 bolt hold up to a 150 shot if I wait til 2nd gear?
I have a 7.5" 10 bolt out of an 86 Firebird. It has stock 3.42 gears, Auburn Pro Posi, Solid bearing spacer, TA Performance cover, and welded axle tubes. I'm running 12.3 @ 109 right now (1.730 60') and feel that the rear is about at its limit. But if I waited until 2nd gear to hit a 150 shot, should the rear be fine? What about the stock steel driveshaft with new u-joints?

I don't know the specifics, but we have ALOT of 4th gens that run our track and just about all have 100-150 shot of juice, the few guys I talked to have them wired so the juice won't come in until 3000rpm and WOT, I'd guess since the cars already in motion, the rear would hold up since the blunt force of the launch is already over with and the drivetrain is in a sence already preloaded under acceleration. If anything would go I think the U-joints would if they're in ify shape already. These rears are a dime a dozen, why not try it then you'll have the knowledge to let others know in the future?! My rear held up to literally hundreds 1.8 shorts all season with the 3.42 gear and I'm runnin a spacer cause the posi I got was out of a 2 series, I figured I'd gernade it this year, but no such luck. The Ford 9" is going in this winter so I won't have a chance to blow it next season with the steeper gear and some more mods.
