Aluminum Driveshaft strength?

Are aluminum driveshafts strong? Can they handle a lot of torque? If I buy one is it going to snap and hang down below my car like I saw on a jeep along the highway the other day?

They are very tough. Will it break? Depends on what you are running. If your fast enough, than you want a driveshaft safety loop, its required by NHRA depending on how fast you are. Some of the aftermarket aluminum shafts are garunteed not to break, but a safety loop is still a good idea, in case of U-joint failure.

the ls1 driveshaft is known to be weak. the aluminum 1le shaft is much stronger.

I have a twisted mess of aluminum driveshaft ready for the trash heap. its what happens under 10 PSI of boost and you hit a 200 shot of nitrous... a loud WHANG BANG! and the rest is history.

Well my car is in the middle of an engine swap+modifications. I'm at that point where all I can do is clean the engine bay and wait for a whole bunch of paychecks. I'm going to end up spending about 3,600 for everything I'm going to do to my car, but it will be worth it in the long run. So, honestly I'm not sure how fast it will be. I'm guessing I'll be pushing around 420-450 hp.

i'm looking at 420hp plus a 150 shot of N20 ... i should be safe with the 1LE aluminum right ?

Also, i kind of thought the LS1 would be stronger since it's a 3" thick rod, but maybe build quality has something to do with it ?

Well the whole reason why I was questioning the aluminum drive shaft is because my boss at work owns a '98 T/A and he had problems with his U-joints so..
