OD kickdown valve
i have searched this topic for hours and read everypost that i could find on it, but still have some unclear questions.
1. i have a "hybred shift kit", its part transgo and part superior. do either of these shift kits include the kickdown valve?
2. would this valve be a standard replacement in a rebuilt tranny?
3.the GM part has 5 parts, which include valve body gaskets, boost valve and other parts. since i already have the .500 boost valve, i dont have to drop the valve body and replace the gaskets? or do the gaskets have something else done to them to help out in the kickdown process?
4. let the contraversy begin!!! which is better the GM part or the B&M part???

The kits are different; what do you want to do?
I put the B&M 4-3 kickdown kit in, on my garage floor. It allows you to cruise at high speeds once you're in overdrive, it won't let the throttle kick down into 3rd, no matter how far the gas pedal is down.
The GM 3-4 WOT kit does what it says; allows a full throttle 3-4 upshift. You won't get that with the B&M kit. But with the B&M kit, you let off the gas a bit, the trans shifts into 4th, then you can floor the gas again.
I love the B&M valve because it kind of kills the automatic downshift of 4 to 3, at highway speeds. Even at 50 mph, if I want the trans to drop into third, I have two options. I can move my B&M megashifter back into third. Or, I have to floor the gas pedal to make the trans downshift. That's not too "joe cool" when I'm passing an 80 year old man in an old 4door Reliant! The trans won't downshift into 3rd unless the pedal's down all the way, and for me, I like it. That means I can actually use 4th as a driving/acceleration gear instead of just a cruising gear.

thats exactly what i want. but i was under the impression that the GM kit did the same thing, and costed half of the b&M kit. also the B&M one that is 33 bucks siad its only good for 3/4 throttle, then b&m has a WOT kickdown that costs 118bucks!

The % throttle that the B&M kit lets the tranny kick down to 3rd is totally to do with the TV cable, the kit is set for 3/4 throttle kick down (stock tranny is about 1/2). You can atually make your stock tanny hold in O/d just by loosening the Tv cable off a bunch (not recomended). I have the GM kit and it worked good for a while until I think something gave out, not sure what but I do have a B&M shift kit (total ****) which I beleive is cause the problems in my tranny. Anyway go with the GM kit!! it works great in everyone elses trannys. The only thing is it comes with a TV boost valve that is slightly bigger than stock, in my tranny the valve got stuck, so I put the stock one back in. Hope this helps.

You can install two allen plugs in the 4-3 part throttle passages in the plunger sleeve, at a cost of $.17 a piece. Remove the TV linkage setup (2 bolts) and pull plunger sleeve & plunger. Install the two allen & grind off excess with a Dremel to clear the bore & plunger. You will need a GM schematic to show you the 4-3 part throttle holes. Someone on this board might have a picture to show the PT passages. This will eliminate the 4-3 downshift when over 70-80 mph, if you want 3rd gear just grab the lever & pull back.

You will need to drop the valvebody to remove the valve... The roll pin is kinda hard to get at...
You can order the original GM part pretty cheap through GM Parts Direct and use the part # in the pic. You can always sell off the boost valve...
This will allow 3-4 WOT shifts. Don't ever lossen the TV cable to try this, that's real bad advice
Just compare the end of the valve (it's kinda like a half moon shape) to find the right stuff to rip out. It is NOT where the TV cable pushes.

I didn't advise him to loosen the TV cable, I just stated its affect. This was becasue most people don't know this. So please don't infer that I'm giving bad advise!

No, my bad, I wasn't saying you were giving bad advise... I think I just phrased that wrong... I know you said (not recommended)....
It's just that I heard one of the guys at work saying something about looseing the TV cable gives you better top speed... I was thinking of that at the moment... Sorry... had nothing at all to do with the post.

V8Astro Captain, those are the holes I am talking about. If you use the small allen bolts, they will self tap & very little grinding is (if) necessary. What he shows is way to much work.

I know that this is an old thread, but was wondering if everything shown in that picture comes with that part number from gm? Also, will this work in a 83 700r4?
