Got rearended....could that have broken Trans Mount?
Dropping friend off at his house, I was pulled up to the curb and he was about to get out and the next thing I know, screaching tires and a big impact.
Besides the rear body and back 1/4 panel damage, when I take off from a stop normal and not very slow I hear a single clank/bam noise. From what I have read, it sounds like the trans mount, which I hope, considering I was at a complete stop and the dude hit me in an early/mid 90's F150 and was probably going 30-40 mph. When I take off just right/fast enough not to make the noise I feel the rear slipping on the passenger side, I hope this is because of the trans mount and not a loose rearend or something......*** that would suck
Does this sound like a broken trans mount or maybe worse, like a loose rearend, broken posi (9 bolt RE) or something that would happen by getting rearended pretty hard?
This is on a 88 Iroc Tpi 5.7 btw, not an 86 Z28.

My Camaro got rear ended "totaled" a few months back about the same speed your talking about. My axles were both bent Tq arm was bent trans mount could have broken but it dident. My guess would be the rear end has some internal damage.

Yeah my 88 formula was rear ended dead stop, a cavalier hit me going 35. ouchhh, bent the frams rail, trunk would not close, but the thing was that i drove the car for about 3 months before i sold it. Other than the frame being bent and the trunk would not close, the rear end was a bit sideway, but nothing broke, just bent around a bit. Repair estimates were like $2500 just to fix the frame and sheet metal.
You could have some suspension parts rubbing, u can look at the trans mount from under the car and see if it cracked or whatever, also look at the torque arm mount.
