91 700R4 B&M clutches gone already?

91 700R4 B&M clutches gone already?

My 3rd and 4th gear diasppeared last summer. I had an extra 700r4 in my garage out of a 91 camaro so I took it upon myself to see what makes these things tic.

I rebuilt the trans with what I think are B&M clutches. They came in a B&M 700r4 rebuild kit the speed shop sold to me. With the kit they gave me some extra steels and pads and said that it is common practice on a high performance trans to add extra to the 3/4 clutch pack so I did.

I also did the vette servo and unfortuneatly B&M shift modification kit. Along with all the other seals bands and replacement springs

Now I am wondering if the 3/4 clutch pack has had it. When I race or drag my tranny has trouble going in to third on it own. If I do it manually it shifts into third ,,,and if I floor it and it kicks down it will grab a gear, but it has trouble getting it in third. Any ideas?

If it is toast I don't think I will try to build another. I will be looking to get something heavyduty for the zz4 swap this winter. Boy that engine is just driving me nuts sitting in my garage

I burned up my 3/4 because the tv cable wasn't adjusted just right. Now my second tranny just lost ALL gears including reverse.Just happened,so I don't know why yet.

Your problem sounds like mine.. its the B&M shift kit. It ruins our "beloved" 700R4's. My tranny was MINT when I installed that kit and within a day it was slipping. I added bigger servo's and it helped.. but within afew months.. I lost 3rd and 4th gear. The people at B&M told me themselves, that even on a brand new tranny.. its always a risk, and the company I got the servo's from said that 90% of the people who call them, have some sort of complaint about the B&M Kit.
What do I think of B&M?

from my experience, everything B&M ruins tranny's (at least 700r4's that is)

The B&M kit worked great in my freshly rebuilt trans... for a while. Next thing you know the shifts soften up & it started slipping in 3rd under full throttle. This is after 3 years & only 3000 miles. B&M sucks, period.

Well that explains it B&M has given me the most complete rebuild kit to date..... It has bothe the solution and the problem all in one box Oh well who has got the best deal on a 700r4 built for 450lbft of torque. I am in the market.
