drive shaft...TH350swap
swapped my 700r4 for a TH350 ...yeah good idea i know!...and i also know that since its a 6inch tail shaft i have to modify a bunch of crap which ive already done......excetp the drive shaft i had cut to damn short........and i cant find one out of a 82 camaro that came with 200c ....what i am getting at is this since the 9inch tailshaft th350 will take my drive shaft and i have a 6inch tailshaft does this mean that the next drive shaft i cut has to be 3 inchs longer than my stock drive shaft! if anyone knows exactly how many inches it has to be......that would be great!

I wouldn't rely on what length someone tells me, I would measure it myself. Go here: http://www.iedls.com/ they have instructions on how to measure if you don't know.

A 700R4 driveshaft will work for a 9" tailshaft. It's not 100% accurate but is within 1/4" so that it will work. The 6" tailshaft should use the longer driveshaft but since you say you can't find one then just get a longer one shortened 6". It should be close enough to work fine.
Take the slip yoke off the driveshaft and slide it into the back of the tranny all the way. Pull it back out out 1". Measure from the center of the u-joint on the slip yoke to the center of the u-joint on the diff yoke. That's the length of the driveshaft required.

prolly anything above an s10 standard will work. all trucks have that longer wheelbase but make sure u measure before u go buy. i have 3 driveshafts from when i was searchin for one for my elcamino. i didnt measure as u can tell. wear those cargo pants and bring a big empty tool box and stuff as much **** as possible into them and get some goodies. lol i do other wise i would be more than just broke. lol

I have a driveshaft that is 42 1/4" center to center and has '83
Camaro w/ TH 350 /6" tail written on it. I just looked for a short driveshaft that didn't have a balance weight where I planned to
cut it.

The longer driveshaft you need for a short tailshaft TH350 swap is out of an early third gen that came with the TH200 3 speed tranny.

Ok Stephen, I will stick with looking for the 3rd gen drive shaft. I have some time. I'm going to put the old 700r4 back in until I can afford the Spohn conversion kit.
Norbert, When you say center to center, I,m assuming you mean the center of the u-joint to the center of the joint on the yoke. Is this correct? Norbert, I dont imagine this shaft you have is an extra you just happen to have laying around and want to get rid of, is it?

I just completed this swap. I needed a 3.25"-3.5" longer ds for my swap. The ds I found at the bone yard was out of a 79 Monza wagon ! Had to use the rear yoke from the original when replacing u-joints.
Someone said they were saving for the Spohn kit. I'd consider the B&M conversion kit. B&M's kit was $85 and I needed a new ta bracket from GM- $21. You get a new ta from Spohn but its over $400 for there kit compared to a little over $100 for B&M's.

I priced it with a spherical rod end + shipping and it was over $400. It also came with a bracket so you could use your existing crossmember. ( I did'nt need a new one)
