Cheers for the reply Aaron but i am a bit of a novice with autos
from what my mechanic tells me reverse is fighting with 2nd or3rd
but it's to late now as he has the car and i've asked him to sort it out(more money)AND MY g/f just moans for all the wrong reasons
Is there an inherent problm with these g/boxes or am i just unlucky,

The only inherent problem your trans has is the mechanic that can't get it right. Try someone else.

my 86' 700-R4 has 200K miles on it and it works great. i have 4 vehicles with same trans and no probs with any. many of the miles since i have bought it have not been the easiest . so i do not see an inherent with these trans'. so as above stated what exactly does it do or not do? and also stated if the trans is rebuilt properly it will last a long time. i would recommend rebuilding instead of repairing. since as soon as one thing goes out something else is also on it's way out.
