TPI swap what do I need (no emissions, 60's era car)
Ok guys, it's about high that I get my 1966 Impala going. I'm a kid of the 80's, so I really don't know carb, but I know TPI pretty darn well. I'd like to get a new 4-bolt 350, and use a TPI unit to replace the tired 283, and 2-bbl rochester carb. Emmisions are not a worry, so if anyone can direct me to what I need to do here, I'd be grateful. I can't afford a new motor, or a hopped up motor, but my goal is to find a 4-bolt 350, toss on headers, and obviously dual 2 1/2 pipes to 40 series flowmasters. 3:73's will be in the cards. If I can find a 12 bolt from a 396/427 donor, It'll go in. For the time being I'll have to live with the 3 on the tree, but eventually, I'd like to swap in a T-56, and then 4:10 gears.
Obviously these are big plans
but by fall I want
*a 355 w/ TPI
*upgrade/replace original suspension pieces (locate bigger sway bar if possible)
*put my IROC wheels on it.
*scuff up the original paint, and primer it (black)
*Do something about the bench seat in front, get new seatbelts. recarpet the floor black.
*Get tachometer, and replace odiot lights with gauges. Find a place to mount them, since the car has dealer AC.
just a kid with a dream.

But if you are going to swap a 350 tpi into your car think abaut the transmission to a swap in a 700r4 trannsmission and it is wort it

no automatic for me. The trans is typical 60's. (long gears, only a 3 speed. But when I can gather the coin, I'll try for a T-56 swap. A T-5, if it can handle it. I need overdrive.
I figure, it's my car, I'll do what I want with the trans, and when it comes down to it, i'l rather keep the manual than get rid of it. besides everything is already there. Easier than converting a 2 speed powerglide to a 5 or 6 speed manual.

4-bolt mains have a good WOW factor but unless you're building 600hp a 2 bolt might save you some cash...same with the 12 bolt (though a great rear end). If you're not running slicks you probably won't break a good 10 bolt.
