you can find them on 96+ fullsize GM trucks or www.sdpc2000.com for 400-500/pr. you will have to get a vortec manifold (~$180) as the bolt holes in the heads dont match up to the ones on the standard intake. or you can modify an lt4 intake to fit.

An LT4 intake will NOT fit the cast iron Vortec heads. The bolt pattern is higher up on the mounting surface of the head and there isn't enough material on the LT4 intake to drill it for those holes. The only way it would work is if you got the Vortec heads drilled for the standard bolt pattern. I put the LT4 intake on Fast Burn heads which already have the standard bolt pattern as well as the Vortec style bolt pattern drilled in them out of the box.

Well if you're getting the Vortec heads and sticking with your TPI then you'll need to get the Vortec TPI base. Your stock base won't bolt up to the Vortec bolt pattern. Scoggin Dickey has the Vortec base for $400 I think.

yeah, thats waht i was thinking on going with. i was also thinking about the heads i have now. i have the stock 305, 58cc heads. could i just have these ported and rebuilt or would it be better just to buy something with a larger combustion chamber size like 76cc or 64cc??? heads are kind of confusing to be but they are very important to your horsepower gains, thanks.

The smaller the combustion chamber size, the higher the compression ratio. I'd say don't go with anything bigger than a 62-64 cc combustion chamber. I'm not sure what the Vortecs have but I know it's close to that. The cast iron Vortecs are probably the best bang for the buck when it comes to cylinder heads. If you do go with the Vortecs, you'll need the Vortec TPI base to match them. If you go with a standard style head, then your stock base will bolt right up to it.
