Intake manifold gasket

I am changing the intake manifold gasket this weekend because the other one leaks. Does anyone have any good tips that will make the job go easier for me?

Just be real carefull with the intake bolts. Make sure you have a good quality torx socket I think its 3/8. Your dealing with a steel bolt in an alluminium manifold. That right there spells trouble. You might want to use a penetrating oil Like Mouse milk. I have never used anything better. Be carefull with the bolts its real easy to strip the heads. Torx sucks and use a thread compund when you put it tohgether

Torx do not come in standard sizes like 3/8. I believe the correct size is a T-45.

yeah, be careful with the intake bolts. i just did my intake manifold gasket and almost stripped a few totally. luckily i didnt and now i'm buying a new set for next time. other than that, it's a pretty basic job that requires a few hours or more depending on how good you know what you're doing. also. make sure your engine is cold when you start taking things apart. i ran across a problem putting the runners back together. my engine was hot when i took them off with the plenum and when it cooled they moved and i had some trouble lining them up again. good luck!

Tomorrow is the day for the intake gasket change. I have been looking at the engine and thinking about it and it doesn't look that hard. The car will be cool since I am only about 3 miles from where I will be working. The car has been sitting all week and I have been driving my 70 firebird. Won't be around a computer to ask questions if I get stuck so I hope everything goes fine. Wish me luck...

Just picked up my gasket set and there are some small rubber o- rings in the kit. What are they for?

the o-rings are for the injectors, there should be 8 of them. i dont know if there is one for the cold start injector, but you shouldnt need it. you dont have to replace the o-rings, but you can if you want. i just left mine, but my car only has 48k miles on it sooo its up to you.

Re: Intake manifold gasket

Old post, I know, but similar question.

I'm rebuilding my injectors (from Fuel Injector Connection) and replacing the intake manifold gaskets, (and while I'm at it, may as well take the intake to a parts washer). Looking at ordering all my gaskets from RockAuto. Just want to make sure I have all the gaskets I need.

Intake Manifold Gasket Set FEL-PRO Part # MS930351
Valve Cover Gasket Set FEL-PRO Part # VS50088R
Thermostat Housing Gasket STANT Part # 25138
Thermostat STANT 180* Part # 45358

The gasket set looks to me like it includes the throttle body gaskets too, but what about the EGR? does that need a gasket? The injectors should come with both o-rings, but do I need anything else for the fuel rail? Don't the feed and return lines need an o-ring too?

Thanks

Re: Intake manifold gasket

I bought a fel-pro intake gasket set from Autozone when I did mine, it was around $30. It *did not* come with an EGR gasket, and I don't think it came with a thermostat gasket either. It also only came with 8 injector o-rings, I guess they expect you not to remove the injectors from the fuel rail. Kinda hard when you're replacing the injectors The kit did come with throttle body to plenum gaskets, even a couple different ones for the differences in years. I don't recall it coming with the gaskets for the throttle body top plate or bottom IAC/coolant plate though. Also, don't bother with the rubber gaskets for the front and rear intake seals. They're a pain to get in place, and always seem to start leaking later on. Instead, just put a thick bead of black RTV on the block.
