Problems part II: Dyno complete...

Link to original topic for tose that care: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=48182

Anyhow, I did the dyno run yesterday on the local Mustang dyno. Very disapponted would describe my results. In my quest to finally break 300rwhp, I managed to drop 4rwhp and lose 53ft-lb of torque. And I had a huge oil leak that seems to pop up when I rev past 4 grand. An oil leak that cut my runs short. The leak is somewhere in the back, either the block to intake seal, or the distributor spacer. The only brite side was that the peak hp raised 600RPM to 5.6k and torque raised 800RPM to 4.8k. And I got my speedo calibrated

I think there was a fault in the run, and a second run could have been better. The run showed a little knock between 4900 and 5300, so that probably hurt. I'm also not sure the operator was totally on the throttle. While watching the run on the computer, the cursor for the fuel map took an odd path to WOT. That leads me to believe something was amiss.

I suppose a better run with new ignition components and fresh oil might yeild a better run, but at the moment I'm torn as to whether I should keep the LT1, or go back to the TPI. Opinions?

Oops, I guess I should post the numbers:
power: 268.2 @ 5600RPM
torque: 254.2 @ 4800RPM

Keep the LT1 intake. My guess is once you find out the problems you will love it. I'm in the middle of swapping out both of my cars to the LT1 intake so I don't wanna hear of anybody givin up. Let me know what you find.

No no no..... I am another one of the guys that is about to do this swap and I don't want to hear about ANY problems........

I am not sure what the problem could be, but it sounds to me like that run isn't indicative of the potential of the engine. Don't give up hope!!

Good Luck!!

Sorry to hear about that. I expected to see the loss in TQ, I can feel it with just plain old SOTP's.
Also, dynos differ alot so unless the orginal run was on the same dyno as this one it doen't mean alot.

Yes guys, it was on the same dyno. My last three outtings were on this dyno. It does feel better than the TPI. The only thing that was really different from last time was that I locked the convertor. We'll just have to wait and see...and get that leak fixed.

89 IROC & David: Mods are on my site, gets too long to list As for the program, I have a DFI setup. It may not be program perfect, but it is pretty close. The run showed some knock, so adding fuel in that area might help (or might not). But not to the addition of 50hp. Something else needs work.

Happy Holidays everybody...

Thought about a different cam that would have a higher duration?
