Yet another cam question.. ur thoughts please.

So the wife has decided she doesnt want her 91 RS to be a bat outta hell. In my mind im thinking "then why am I even building this thing?" Nonetheless, I have narrowed down my parts list. I need some advice on the Howards 180235-14 cam. Does anyone have experience or no how well these cams run? Most tpi runners are in the Comp, Crane, and GM world for most builds. I wanted to try something a lil different here. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Yet another cam question.. ur thoughts please.

That cam should work real well, but I don't know anything specifically about Howard's. I know my stock 89 MAF system handled the slightly larger zz4 cam no problem, but not sure how the 91 SD system is gonna react to that cam.

...and those heads might be a little big for a tpi. I know the socal guys are running big heads and cams, but they also have heavily modified intakes to support it. You're probably better off with a smaller head that can help you with torque under the curve.

Re: Yet another cam question.. ur thoughts please.

Well the original plan was to run a "slightly" bigger cam originally. Thats where the bigger heads would come in. Also I would see more of a benefit should I decide to port the base, runners etc. I just thought I would look at some different cams out there and see what was avail before I resorted back to my original plan. Plus this howards cam has "roughly" the same characteristics of the LPE 211/219 cam.

It will be fine. Should be torquey

Rather see more lift but those lobes should be softer on valvetrain and springs last longer

Re: Yet another cam question.. ur thoughts please.

Thanks Orr, im not goin crazy on this build, my other one has the fun stuff in it. Jus wanted something slightly better than a stock LT1. But with good mileage as well as some decent low end grunt. I have a set of comp 987 valve springs that I was gonna use since the cam has low lift, even with a 1.6 rr. U think I will be safe here?

Re: Yet another cam question.. ur thoughts please.

With Orr that cam will run good with the TPI/heads you have.
Porting the intake will help even more get some good runners on there, headers it will pull like a stroker.
