Intermittent loss of power
It started doing this last weekend, i started it up, sounded fine, got halfway down the street and im not kidding it felt like it was running on 2 cylinders, i put my foot down and it was really sputtery and would hardly move, felt awful, so i turned around and limped back home, all i done was disconnect the battery for 5 mins and tried again and it was totally fine the rest of the day.
Then again last night, i drove to my girlfriends house and, the power disappeared, i felt like i was crawling there praying the car wasnt going to cut out, then when i left her house, bearing in mind i done nothing to the car, it was totally fine going home.
Ive spoke to someone who knows his TPI's and he told me to unplug the MAF with the car running and it should still run ok, so i tried that and my car just cut out ! plugged it back in and it started up no problem.
Ive also got a weird situation with my MAF burnoff relay, if i plug it in it sets a code 33 straight away, this all must be linked somehow, ive constantly got a code 36 for the burnoff problem, then lately its been setting a code 33 too.
So anyway today i just disconnected the battery for 5 minutes to clear all the codes, i unplugged my MAF burnoff relay, the MAF itself was plugged in, then i reconnected the battery and took the car out for 20 minutes and it drive fine, no misfiring or anything.

Re: Intermittent loss of power
I might aswell go through the other problems as everything maybe related. The car smells of fuel when its running, however i pulled a few of the plugs and they are fine, they arent wet or oily etc, just the usual colour plugs go.
I had the car out last night to go to a local cruise and it ran fine, i checked the codes again when i got home and noitced the IAC was really noisy when in diagnostic mode, that cant be right can it ? heres a video.
After clearing the codes i plugged the MAF burnoff relay back in, reconnected the battery and started it up and straight away the SES light came on and set the code 33 and wouldnt rev up, it was quite grumbly. so i unplugged it again, resent the ECU once more and the SES light went off and it was running fine, WTF
combination of bad ECU and wiring etc ?

CEL may not illuminate again until the second start up. That is why. Sounds like you have a bad MAF or bad MAF related components (relay etc.)

I posted the factory trouble tree on the trouble code 33 link below.

Re: Intermittent loss of power
Thanks guys.
i could drive the car all day after resetting the codes and the SES light will stay off until i switch off and restart the car again then it will come on because it will register that the burnoff cycle did not take place once the car was switched off.
But this code 33 only happens if i plug my burnoff relay in, and even with that plugged in i still get the code 36 !
Worse still, everyone that has problems with the MAF etc seems to be able to unplug it and the car will still run, but if i unplug my MAF with the engine running, the car just cuts out.

Re: Intermittent loss of power
The MAF test you are referring to needs to start with the engine off. You unplug the MAF sensor with engine off and then start the engine. The engine will now run in default fuel mode using throttle position and a MEMCAL fuel map to run the car. It will run okay but not like it will with everything working correctly. Unplugging the MAF with the engine running will kill the motor because the ECM is instantly losing the MAF input it uses for fuel calculations and it can't start default fuel quickly enough to prevent the engine stalling.
I agree that your problem is obviously in the MAF sensor or circuits. The MAF test detailed here is just a quick test to verify that the fuel system, aside from the MAF sensor, is okay. It is not recommended that you drive the car this way for any length of time.
