305 speed density cam? heads?
Hey guys, just wondering what a solid cam choice would be for a rather stock 1991 305 TPI, with speed density. I heard about the Z24 cam being used, but I'm not sure if it runs well in MAF or SD cars, or both. My car's front end is ripped apart and I figured I might try to wake up my 305 a little bit since the access is there. What about heads to compliment the cam? I tried searching but most of the results are for MAF cars. Thanks!

305 small bore size basically limits you to 1.94" valve and no larger. No many heads out there that have valves like that. Trickflow 175's were advertised as smallbore head but the valve size doesnt allow much cam lift.
A good option is to port a set of 305 heads or find the vortec 305 castings and have some work done there.
Another option would be vette l98 heads but chambers may overhang alot.
Cam will need a tune for most part to get most out of it but zz4 wouldnt be a bad deal. Just need to be sure the heads can handle the lift. Stock heads wont with out some machining or getting creative with the retainers.
Any of the smaller duration cams from comp lunati etc will work. Something between 210-216 deg will be nice. If you wanted to rev higher 218-224 grind with a siamesed tpi or stealthram would be awesome. Bigger cam will need ecm tuning. Smaller cams may run ok on stock programming but need tweaked for best gains
