I believe I have a fuel problem
I think I have a leaky injector. My car sits for a week at a time because I live in Jax and I'm working o. The car is in palm coast while I work on it to get it running. The problem I'm having is I turn the car on and I get white some out of the pipes and it's a strong smell of burnt fuel. I don't know if it's injectors or a fuel pressure regulator. I think its defiantly in the fuel. I haven't owned the car long it sat in the previous owners drive way for about a year and the owner before that garaged it for 10years. I'm just trying to get it running right and drive her like she should be. Any help would be great thanks.

Re: I believe I have a fuel problem
if you pull the vacuum hose to the fpr and have fuel coming out it would be the fpr diaphragm. you might want to prime the fuel system a few time and start pulling the spark plugs or even ohm the injectors. Southbayfuel injectors bosch 3's would be a great upgrade for your 305 tpi.

now when you say pull the vacuum hose do you mean the top line going to the upper plenum??

yes the line going from the regulator to the rh side of the plenum.

ok and if fuel comes out i need a regulator. Im hoping its not injectors i dont wanna do performance upgrades until she runs right.

you would be killing two birds with one stone, newer technology better spray pattern, better throttle response. ohm the injectors and post the findings.

I pulled the vac line from the regulator and did not have fuel in it I smelt fuel but not liquid fuel came out of the line, does that mean my regulator is working properly?

The injectors should be between 16-17 ohms is that a cold or hot reading ? you might double check with julie user southbay08

I had just ran the car for a few minutes and let it sit for a little to cool so I'll say warm temp

Re: I believe I have a fuel problem
did you check the ohm's when the injectors are hot? Just because they are all 14ohm when they are cold does not mean that they are ok. The stock injectors are prone to coil failure as we all know, however they are more likely to shut down when they are hot. When we put them on the bench to flow test them,, they sometimes test absolutely fine, but once we start putting them through the various duty cycle and increasing the pressure to about 60psi they shut right down.
You may want to check the diaphragm on your regulator since they have a tendency to dry out over time.

Re: I believe I have a fuel problem
Thank you I was thinking and hoping its a regulator problem not injectors cause injectors are pricey lol. I pulled the vac line from the regulator and there wasn't any fuel in the line.
My car sits usually for a week at a time while I work during the week. When i got to start it after a week it's usually hard to start. When it does even if I started the car the day before I get smoke out of the pipes and it smells really rich almost like it loaded up fuel while it was running. If I try to rev the engine right after start up it'll stumble and try and search for an idle once warmed (or all the fuel is burnt off) the idle will smooth and I'll be able to rev with littler to no miss or stumble but I still get the gas smell and smoke. My best guess is that it's a faulty regulator allowing too much fuel.

Here's another question and I'm wondering if its relevant if my tps sensor voltage was off and I mean .20 could that affect if the car ran rich or no?
