vortec pcm

i just got a good deal on a swap ive thought off and researched for a few yrs on and off. i haven't found much tho. seems like its older tech at this point but "free" makes it better.
96 vortec donor. don't wanna venture into the 411 just yet and tuning is still new for me. can this computer run my engine ok til i can get into tuning myself? it will be the donor engine topped with tpi and maybe lt1/4 cam. haven't decided yet. going into my 91 bird. i do have plenty of experience making harnesses and i have all my scan tools for work. not looking for 1200 hp by any means but maybe just a nice even 300. even comes with the 4l80e trans attached. now im hoping my lingenfelter drive-shaft will play nice but thats not my luck. would prefer a 4l60e tho. can the connector be rewired or just get the pcm reflashed for the 60e? anybody else do this swap before and what did you experience?

Re: vortec pcm

From what I understand, there isn't much rewiring required of the Vortec L31 harness, other than adding injector wires and repinning the PCM. I would consider the swap, just call and get a base tune on an 0411 PCM from PCM4less.com or some other place with experience on the swap. Dont let it intimidate you...

The L31 is a good base to start from for a street TPI engine. The base doesn't lend itself for anything max effort due to design flaws, but it'll still be plenty potent for most people.

Sell the 4L80-E and put that money towards swap parts. Plenty of people looking for them.
