Re: Carb cleaner used on Throttle body
carb cleaner will work perfectly fine to clean out the sludge from the throttle body.

Carb cleaner is a bit harsher than throttle body cleaner but you should be ok. Just don't use Brake cleaner that'll ruin your day.

Re: Carb cleaner used on Throttle body
Some throttle bodies do. Don't think anything used on our cars did, though.
Carburetor cleaner isn't always free of chemicals that will contaminate or damage sensors, unless labelled "sensor safe".

Re: Carb cleaner used on Throttle body
on the older systems i believe ford is the only one to use a coating on the throttle plates, at least i don't recall ever seeing a warning label on any other cars, not until you get into the throttle by wire systems anyway.
a coated ford TB will coke up just as bad and just as fast as one that isn't coated.
the absolute best throttle body cleaner i have ever seen is made by BG.
occasionally i've used MAF cleaner, but its never really impressed me. most of the time i just used starting fluid with a straw and its worked fine.
i've never used BG maf cleaner. i know most of the rest of BG's products work great, so their maf cleaner could very well work better than starting fluid.
