Car starts, surges to 5000RPM

When I start my car it stumbles, then surges to 5000RPM. If I press the gas, the RPM's come back down. What could be backwards to cause this. Thanks, Joe

Hello jibz1985!!

Check out your TPS idle voltage, and also how it reacts when you move it through it's full sweep, basically your looking for a smooth increase in voltage, with no voltage spikes!!

Post back with your findings!!

It's a 305 Standard with no mods.

I know the TPS voltage is .55 with just the ignition on. I'll test it through the full sweep tomorrow. Thanks for the input.

**FIXED**

I am officially an idiot. There was a leak because i bolted the EGR electric wire between the runner and TPI base plate. Thanks for the help in checking other things though.
