Which High volume fuel pump - looking at third one.

Looking at my 3rd high volume fuel pump in a couple of years. First one was Edelbrock, second one Holley (tho of course both come out of the box with Walbro stamped on them LOL). The one from holley failed after 4 months, and of course only came with a 90 day warranty. Any suggestions on one that might last a little longer?

I would go with the factory part number ep-381. I believe this is out of the Typhoon and has ample flow. I have had it in my car for a number of years now with no problems. That is also the one Dyno Don uses with his upgrades.

Is it still available from GM?

I agree, but why not a Walbro? I've had good luck with them.

I'd be concerned as to why the other pumps keep going bad. Do you keep the tank at least 1/2 way full so the pick up stays submerged? What about the sock/filter?

Re: Which High volume fuel pump - looking at third one.

Walbro was bought out a few years ago, and have been outsourcing their pumps to Taiwan, or somewhere overseas. Quality is way down compared to what it once was.

I know firsthand, went through 3 Walbro's before I found this out. I installed the EP-381 (pump from TTA/ Typhoon) and haven't looked back.

Anybody that carries genuine Delco parts should have it, or be able to get it relatively easily.

Re: Which High volume fuel pump - looking at third one.

I have used the racetronix with hot wire kit for 2 years now and not had any problems. I run a very mild 383 with a tiny shot (100 shot) of nitrous. The racetronix broke my fuel pressure regulator when I forgot to turn it down after the pump install. Pressure went over 100psi and POP!, there goes the regulator. Anywho, get the racetronix and be done with it!

Re: Which High volume fuel pump - looking at third one.

Walbro is the only manufacturer these days, everyone else puts their name on it. (I'm 95% certain no one else is making them)

So, there's no gain.

Did you consider that perhaps you have another problem that is blowing the pumps? An errant ground? Weak voltage to the pump? These are decent pumps and should not be blowing this frequently.

If you want to go external I carry Areomotive and Fuelabs, you'll never have a problem with one of their products and you'll only have to do it once. I've learned in my life working on cars, sometimes there's a high cost of being cheap, and if you spend the right money once, it's cheaper than spending less money three or four times. Plus doing the work.

You'd be surprised how many times this happens in auto industry. There's only 3 factories world wide for valves. Same for lifters, only a few injector manufacturers, etc...

The market isn't as diverse as people believe.

That's a walbro pump. It was when I put it in my car a few years back. I've been running one for years without problem.

Re: Which High volume fuel pump - looking at third one.

I made the mistake of buying a high volume fuel pump from TPIS last year and it lasted for less than 30 gallons before it died. It was stamped Bosch and must have been real old stock as it was also stamped "Made in Czechoslovakia". I'll bet that piece of crap wasn't made by Walbro.
When I installed the pump I wired in a new relay and made sure the ground and voltage was good at the connector going into the tank.
I bought a replacement Walbro from Racetronix (don't remember where it was stamped as made) that has already pumped more gas and is still alive. Since the pump is so easy to change on a Vette I think I'll buy a spare this winter and carry it in the car.

I have no problem with Walbro. If you have had good luck I would stick with them. We have had good luck with the EP-381 and the price was reasonable so that is why we are using them.
