running rich(?)

I am guessing that my car is in fact running rich since I can smell what to me smells like raw/unburnt gas right after startup. The motor also has what seems like a 'dead' cyl but is worse/more obvious sometimes than others.

Right now I am looking for known causes of unburnt fuel in a TPI motor. For example; MAF sensor? O2 sensor? etc, etc, etc.

I have tried to post a few times on here but I haven't been too sucessful getting any/many replies so if you have any ideas PLEASE share. I also want to add that most of my diagnosis will have to be done without taking my car to a shop so if there are any 'backyard' procedures to try please add them.

Thanks in adavnce.

Re: running rich(?)

O2 sensor, vacuum leak, leaking injector(s). Any codes? Whats your block learn count? Is it in closed loop?

I'm not even sure what a block learn count is and I also don't really know what 'loop' it is in.
FWIW, I swapped out the computer for another spare I had laying around and there was absolutely no change so I put the original back in.

I'm getting my reconditioned injectors exchanged by the seller I got them from because I am sick of that even being an option/cause and I want to eliminate that as a thought or even better just fix the damn car.

Nothing like a motor that runs great for 2 years after a ssucessful TPI swap to just start being problematic enough to make me want to eat all my words of TPI encouragement to others and just go back to a carb. This is the BS I didn't want to deal with and is probably why many stray away from TPI/fuel injection in general. That, and even though this is a TPI forum it's pretty much like pulling teeth to get any replies/help from people (IMO)

BUT, I am very thankful for your reply and you taking a second to try and help. {end rant}

Re: running rich(?)

I know you don't want to here this, but it could be the injectors my 92 gta had some injectors that were bad and the computer tried to comp. by making the good ones put out more fuel. You can check them yourself.Use a multimeter to check them. You unplug them warm and check the injectors not the wires. They should be around .11-.14 but I am not positive on the numbers. But I am almost sure that anything under .11 is bad. Hope this helps!!!!

Re: running rich(?)

Thanks for the reply Rob.
I did ohm the injectors out a while ago and they all ohmed out good even when warm (which I guess is when they will really show a problem).
I guess that doesn't really prove if they are in fact leaking or not though.
I have replacement injectors on their way (under warranty from the seller) so hopefully that will solve things

From the google, (try it, works well):
http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...ics/index.html

Injectors should be .15-.17.
