B4C-bringing her back to life!
So I saw a bunch of threads where you could follow the build from start to finish, and thought it would be cool to have my own. I bought a pair of 91 RS hardtops early Feb this year. One of them turned out to be a B4C L98! Drove them home 80 miles. I have a few problems with both of them, fairly minor, but I'll concentrate on the B4C in this thread.
Cosmetically, the dash is trashed, door panels arent in the best shape, and its been in some kind of accident because the drivers door isnt original, it is manual window while the car was ordered with power. The bumper cover and chin spoiler have been seriously abused and need to be swapped (good thing I have a good running parts car LOL). The black paint is chipped and scratched and it has a set of rattle can red racing stripes.
Mechanically-it runs fairly good, but needs the valve guide seals replaced, and the 4" exhaust tips are ugly as hell IMHO and they leak exhaust back into the car. It has a surge problem after it warms up. Other than that it runs great, although I need to do some upgrades for more power. Luckily for me, nobody has molested this cars engine, tranny, or suspension!
After some research on this site, I decided that I needed to check my injectors for resistance. Well, I think I figured out my surging problems. The left bank of injectors all show 16-17 ohms. The right bank show 7-9 ohms. So I decided to order some Southbay 22lb bosch III injectors. Im also going to pull the AIR crap off, and use pipe plugs in the manifolds. And I also picked up a new longer serpentine belt to bypass the smog pump without a smog delete pulley!
I will take some pics of the work once I get the parts. It'll be slow going for awhile because Im laid off at the moment, and this fall I am going back to college. Im sure I will have a ton of questions for you guys before Im done. Hope you enjoy, and if you have any suggestions, fire away!
PS I'll post a few pics below-or check out my album!

Yeah, I kinda like the idea, but the execution was not so good. the tape lines are nice and straight, but at the ends they just dont look that great. The paint is thick enough that it feels like a sticker. This car will probably be primed and sealed by end of summer. Im swapping out the bumper cover soon.
thanks for the reply!

refinishing wheels by hand can be pretty inexpensive and look good. i did my 5 spoke set i put on my bernlinetta with fine grit sandpaper tape, a razor, can of gold paint, and a 2 cans of wheel clear. was about an hour of hard work each. dont let unemployment get you down. think of it as temporarily retired

Funny you mentioned refinishing the wheels. I planned on doing my wheels black with the outside ring polished. Took some more pics as the sun was going down tonight. This will be the before shot and I wanna take one from the same angle when its done!

Re: B4C-bringing her back to life!
Been awhile since I updated...lots of personal/health things with the family put the car on the back burner. Just got a new set of Bosch III injectors from FIC in the mail today...throwing them on this weekend. My dual fans broke...the plastic??? bracket that holds the motor in the pass side broke and both fans stopped working. Ended up JB welding the bracket and got the fans working, but they dont turn on by themselves anymore. replaced the relay, didnt fix it. So I swapped for the single fan from my 305 RS, and wired it up with a switch (made my own harness so I didnt have to cut into the original wiring, just zip tied the original out of the way til I can figure that out) then I will put the dual fans back in. Found a local guy with a paint booth, so hopefully I can get her painted this winter. Any suggestions for color?
I was thinking that new sonic green on the Synergy 2010 Camaro... Probably stick with Black, but Im toying with the idea of making it really stand out with a cool color.
Let you know how the car runs out after I swap injectors!
BTW-Jon at FIC...AMAZING to deal with...I would recommend him for any injector purchase!!!

Re: B4C-bringing her back to life!
Finally got the injector swap done...OH MY GOD what a difference!!! It runs so much smoother, the power difference is incredible. Had a few minor foul ups, like did you know that the runners are NOT interchangeable??? They bolt up fine, but leaves a hell of a leak on the drivers side! LOL Thankfully, after tightening the air cleaner assembly and getting ready to fire it up, my wife asked what "that hole" was...so 3 hours later, everything is back in the right spot, lesson learned! Now on to the next thing. Think if I have to do much more work on it...an HSR is in my future! I'll keep the original TPI manifold, plenum, and runners in case I want to go back to completely original. Stay tuned

it seems like your set on re painting, just so you know, washing, clay baring, cheap buffer, rubbing compound, scratch remover, polish, and wax would go an LONGGGG ways on her and make her look so fine! But i would stay black or maybe grey or charcoal color might look nice? i think black body color and black wheels might just be a tad to much, i think a med-dark grey would look really good with those black/polished wheels, expecially red stripes.
