TPI Swap almost done, need VATS help!
I have almost finished my TPI swap into my 83 TA. It won't start, but it will crank, plugs are firing, and there is 45psi of fuel at the fuel rails. However, it seems there is no fuel getting to the cylinders (plugs are dry after firing, don't smell like fuel). I suspect a problem with the VATS. I am using a Fuel Injection Connection harness with the original computer for the 92TA 305. My brother burned me a new prom with the VATS programmed out, which seems to be why it is cranking and the spark and fuel pump are working. Anybody know what I have to do to get the VATS to allow the injectors to fire? I would be very grateful for any assistance! I really want to get this thing on the road.

are you getting injector pulse? if you have a spare, I would first try swapping the ignition module, unless you are certain it's good...

Most likely you have the starter wired direct off the key anyway in your '83 without going through the VATS starter enable relay?
If VATS is disabled on the chip then the ECM is not looking for the injector signal so not a VATS problem
Have you tried pulling the codes?
Have you checked the injector fuses?
Have you ohm'ed the injectors?. One bad injector will take out the whole bank
Do you have 12V at one side of the injector plug ?

I did pull codes and all I got was the code 12. The injector fuse I haven't checked, although that should be brand new, on the 4 fuse block that came with the harness. I will check to make sure those are still good. Could you explain how to tell if I am getting injector pulse? And as far as "ohming" the injectors, do you mean just measuring the resistance across the terminals of each injector? As far as 12V at one side of the injector, should I have 12V measured on the positive side of the injector plug while cranking? I thought this pulse might be too short of duration to measure. Thanks for the help guys, I really do appreciate, it, (I am just new to the finer points of TPI trouble shooting).
Thanks again,
Ryan

You need a "noid " light which show the injector pulse

Thanks to your guys' help, I got it running today. I had 12V at keyed on, and borrowed a noid light set from the parts store. It would occasionally flash as we stopped cranking it (turning the key from crank to run). Turns out the wire I used for the switched on was only hot in run, and not in crank. I also checked the resistance of all the injectors. They were all right about 15.7-15.8ohms except two were about 7 ohms. Does this mean they are likely not firing? Thanks again for the help!
